Water is one of the essential elements require for our subsistence and also the most unique feature of our Earth. The planet of earth embodies ¾ of the total area as water. But in fact very less amount of water is usable for our daily purposes and also the environmental changes have led to certain alarming situations appealing for water conservation.

ANALYSIS

If we see then we'll find that most of the water that is wasted is due to carelessness by ourselves. The major wastage of water is through leakages. Leakage of water should be stopped so as to conserve it and sometimes leakage of water is also harmful. Some of the sources of water leakage and their respective remedies are: -
* TAPS--Many a times it happens that we forget to close the tap and even if we have closed the tap then we don't close it tightly and the water drips out continuously. Statistics have shown that a leak of 1 drop/second leads to a loss of 10000 litres of water per year. So why to waste so much water when it can be put to many other important uses. So it is important to close the tap tightly and to ensure it after the work is done. Also while brushing teeth etc. we shall keep the tap closed and open whenever necessary only.
* PLUMBING LEAKS-There is a substantial amount of water loss through leaks in water supply and drainpipes. So these need to be repaired as soon as possible.
* POOR SITE DRAINAGE-When the drainage of the site is poor then it encourages seepage through skirting. For this purpose reduce water seepage with drainage ditches, gravel, perimeter water barriers and foundation waterproofing.
* APPLIANCES-Water leaks also from various appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers and also from refrigerators. So we should always keep a check on these appliances and prevent it from happening.

PRODUCTS USEFUL FOR STOPPING WATER LEAKAGE

There are several products are also available in the market which help in stopping water leakages. Some of them are: -
* FLOODSTOP VAVES-These are specialized valves that are connected to the water supply. These valves automatically shut the water supply if the sensors attached to it identify any leakage.
* THERMACAMS-These are special cameras, which are specifically designed to detect the sources of water leakage or moisture before too much damage is done.

So as it is important to conserve the water it is also important to repair the leakages because it may damage our household and other properties.
