Don't water your lawn in windy days:

About lawn watering:

Lawns can give a touch of beauty and greenery to any garden. They also have a significant cooling effect, provide oxygen, trap dust and dirt, promote healthful microorganisms, prevent erosion and filter rainwater contaminants. Besides lawns can also absorb and hold water, which helps reduce storm runoff and improve water quality. However watering is a very important aspect when it to maintain a quality lawn in almost any garden. While watering the lawn, it should always be done long enough for the moisture to soak down to the roots as it is seen that a light sprinkling can evaporate quickly and tends to encourage shallow root systems. Usually the best time for watering is early morning as less water will be lost to evaporation. Also it is better to water the first half-inch or so and then wait for an hour or two before watering the second half-inch. Thorough watering encourages your lawn to develop deep root systems that make the lawn hardier and more drought-resistant.

Prevention of watering in windy days to check wastage:

In the summer season lawn should not be watered more than once in every three days and during the winter times watering should be done once in every five days. Also watering should be done during the cool parts of the day like early morning. It is better than dusk as it helps in the prevention of a possible growth of fungus. It is very important to keep in mind that one should not try to water in windy days. The wind cannot only blow the sprinklers of the target but also can effectively sped up evaporation of the water. A study has shown that turf water usage rates are extremely high in both windy and sunny days. By avoiding the watering of lawns one can effectively check the loss of water. It should be noted that the water for the lawn should reach the soil first and then the lawn will do their work of taking it back form the soil. Any time when the lawn is watered the grass blades should not block the water.
