Kerosene oil commonly known as the paraffin oil is a colorless inflammable hydrocarbon liquid. It releases heat when burned that makes it as useful as a fuel. Some of the most common domestic application of kerosene oil are cooking and lighting lamps and lanterns. However it has been noticed that due to the unnatural odor of the liquid many of the domestic species of pests do not like it. Ants, roaches, mice, lizards, mites, termites and many other crawling insects can be repelled through kerosene if applied carefully. This fact has contributed to the popularity of kerosene and its wide application as one of the most common but significant conventional methods of repelling pests in and around the house.

Application and precautions:

Kerosene is an effective pest repellent that makes it one the most conventional ways to get rid of insects and pests mainly for domestic purposes. In many cases it has been observed that kerosene has proved effective as well as successful for ant and termite infestation in the house. Commonly kerosene can be sprayed using a hand spray gun. However in severe cases it is recommended to apply from a bottle directly to the site of infestation in large quantities to the surface where the pests have infested. However precaution has to be while application as the kerosene is extremely inflammable. More if taken internally by children and pets it can cause death.
