Exhaust fans play an important role in the ventilation and cooling system of a house. They remove odors from the house, which improves indoor air quality and also remove moisture, which can increase the level of humidity in a house thus bringing a cooling effect. In some houses a central exhaust system is used for cooling, in which one fan draws moisture and odors from several rooms of the house using a network of ducts. A kitchen exhaust system usually has the fan and fan motor in the exhaust hood while other systems use an in-line fan, which is in the exhaust duct, or a fan outside the house. It is found that in-line and outdoor exhaust fans are usually quieter than systems with the fan in the room.
