Two man cross cut saws:

Introduction:

As the name suggests, two men cross cut saws are saws, which are designed for use by two men.

Design and use:

This is on of the oldest varieties of saws that have been in use since ancient times. Apart from a few changes, the design and the use of these saws are the same. The saws are available in different shapes and sizes and can be used to cut different shaped woods or trees in many shapes and designs. The saws can range from four to twelve feet in length, though they can sometimes go up to more than sixteen feet. Some modern two-man saws are even larger than these. The basic technique of using this saw is very similar in almost all types of two man saws. Usually, two men stand at either end of the saw. The two men then alternate while cutting the saw through the wood. Sometimes kerfs can close while sawing, to avoid this problem wedges can be inserted to keep them open. Another technique of under buckling can also be used in case of extreme problem. Since two man saws can cut in both directions, the tooth design of the saws is very essential if not very necessary. Usually various patterns of saw teeth are used for different types of cutting operations. The length of the teeth can be anywhere between 130 to 240 cm or larger. Two man saws are most commonly used for cutting large logs. Two man cross cuts can also be used for log building, timber framing or any other framing job.

Advantages and disadvantages:

The saw can be used effectively for greater volume of work very effectively. These saws are very durable and with a little maintenance they can be used for a longer time effectively. However, since they require two men to operate them, they are not very popular among people who have shortage of manpower. They can also be expensive. They can also be unsuitable for ordinary sawing operations due to the requirement of two men. Smaller variation of two man saws, i.e., one-man saws are also many times preferred for similar operations.

However, if all conditions are ideal, then, two man cross cut saws are the best possible saws that larger sawing industries can invest in, while choosing cross cut saws.
