What is feng shui?

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice of bringing harmony into the living space by controlling or redirecting the flow of energy. Feng shui laws and rules are based on the guiding principle of energy flow through wind and water. This system also involves placing certain objects such as wind chimes, waterfalls and mirrors that can be used to convert negative energy into positive energy. Feng shui literally means 'wind and water'.

Where is feng shui used?

Feng shui, pronounced, as 'fung shway' can be incorporated into homes, offices, living spaces or just about anywhere. This method may involve building the rooms of the house in a particular direction or with placing certain objects in a particular living space or area. Directions are important in feng shui and it is generally believed that every corner of the living or workspace determines things such as health, wealth, relationships and general well being of the people in that house or office.

How is feng shui incorporated in an existing structure?

Although masters of feng shui advise that the building structure whether it is meant to be a residential area or a business office, must conform to feng shui principles right from the time of construction. However, this may not be possible in the case of those who purchase such sites after construction is complete. In such cases, there are simple methods such as changing the objects or the location of the office cabins can bring about a better flow of positive energy. While it may not be feasible to pull down walls or tear apart rooms in the house or the office, simple methods like avoiding clutter or the use of mirrors or wind chimes may add to the décor of the place.

Why feng shui?

Although many people think that feng shui is more occult or old traditions at work, one cannot argue with the fact that feng shui incorporates many good things that can really affect the look and décor of the place. The important guiding principle of avoiding clutter in order to enable free flow of energy is something that has influenced many to look at feng shui for more answers to space related problems.
