Using backyard for archery


While growing up children indulge in many activity. One of them is targeting. They target some valuable things like flowerpot, television, or any showpiece and then they hit it hard by ball. This game of them causes nuisance in the house. You may just get wild over them and simply kick them out of the house for a while. But have you ever thought that they have got the liking to play the game of archery. Archery is the beautiful game. It takes lot of stamina, concentration and lot of hard work. It is the practice of using a bow to shoot arrows. It has historically significance. It was used in hunting and combat. There after it became a precision sport. A person an expert at archery is called a toxophilite or an Archer.

Classical archery

The earliest concrete evidence of game of archery dates back around five thousand years ago. However the bow probably originated for use in hunting and was then adopted as a tool of warfare. Bows eventually replaced the darts. The Macedonians, Nubians, Greeks, Persians, Indians, Chinese and Koreans notably practiced classical archery. They employed large numbers of archers in their armies. Arrows proved exceptionally destructive. And the use of archers against massed formations often proved decisive. Archers did sometimes ride on horseback those were prominently called horse archers. This combined range with speed. Mythological characters like Apollo and Odysseus are often depicted with a bow. The phrase a parting shot comes from the Parthian shot. That was a technique employed by them while the riders turn in the saddle to shoot the arrow as they rode away from the enemy.

Modern archery

Competitive archery involves simply shooting arrows. The arrow is targeted for accuracy from certain set distance or distances. This form of archery is most popular worldwide. This often termed as target archery. Subset of Target Archery is Field Archery. Field archery indulges in a shot at targets generally set at various distances in a wooded setting. This is particularly popular in European and American countries. Competitive archery is a sport of precision. It requires as much a mental as a physical part of you.
